It is a hot pan or a cat?

I had a coaching session. The client had seen a certain behaviour in a person, they had previously seen in another person and was therefore worried that their experience with this new person would be the same as before.
After talking about this behaviour, it became clear that the client had only seen it once, the rest of the worries were based on their previous experience.

And here comes the pan and the cat into the story. A hot pan will burn you every time you touch one, but because one cat has scratched you, it does not mean every cat will scratch you.

It is important, when we experience things, we have seen before, that we investigate if it is a pan or a cat.
